Use Search Engine Optimization (SEO) Keywords to Improve Your Grades

Developers of search engines have decided that content or information is king on websites. SEO techniques tell the web crawlers or spiders that are constantly patrolling the Internet what your website is about and how good a job you do providing content or information about the subject of your website.

These web crawlers look for keywords in meaningful contexts. Keywords are specific words that will be fed to the search engines by the spiders and that will tell the search engine what the website is about. When web crawlers find these keywords they report this to the search engines. The more keywords they find the happier they are and the more willing they are to tell others about your website by increasing your website's page rank. The more information on your website, the higher your page rank, the more people will visit your website and the more money you will make.

However you can't just list keywords without content. Spiders are aware of this trick and know to look for keywords in meaningful context. A website that has been optimized takes advantage of keywords and emphasizes them by using them several times in prominent places in the website's text. The keywords appear in lists that compare similar keywords and contrast different keywords. Sometimes by using bold face, italics, and underlined fonts a web developer can improve his website's page rank. The more a particular keyword is featured on a web page, the greater the chance the web spider will give a positive report to the search engine about the website's use of that keyword.

Your professor behaves just like a web crawler. Just like the search engine spider, your professor looks through your work and tries to find meaningful content or information to see if you understand the subject. Think about the tests you've taken.

  • True or false questions and multiple choice questions often depend on knowing the mean of a keyword or two. If you know the words, you get the answer correct.
  • The same with essay questions. If you can scatter the words throughout your in class essay exam you will find the professor is positively responsive and you will get better grades. If you're not sure of the answer, you can fake it better by using the keywords of the course you are taking.
  • Put the words in lists, underline them, emphasize that you know them. Learn to use these words correctly and your grades will jump up.

How do you find these keywords?

  • Simple, these keywords are really what the course is about.
  • Keywords are those that have come up in class lectures, discussions and in the assigned readings.
  • Basically these are vocabulary words.
  • Lots of books will have vocabulary listed at the end of the chapter (a prominent place), are in bold face when they appear in the main text and are in the glossary in the back of the book (another prominent place).

Notice how similar the location of these keywords are similar to what SEO tells us websites should be. Take advantage of this. Learn the vocabulary words for of your course and use them like SEO websites use keywords. Your grades with improve a lot and you'll find that your study time is used more efficiently and more effective.
